Whether this is something they did on purpose, i'm not sure. For example a couple years ago a very early version of a cracked 3Ds Max that everyone used had every 2nd frame you rendered slightly move so all your animations would become useless. The biggest way companies combat this, especially within this industry is actually to "crack" their own stuff and then put trackers in it or intentionally put something in that crack that messes with the program. Some take more effort than others but even big companies or AAA games DRM get cracked every time. I can't think of any program that haven't been cracked.
